Jessica Wood is a Gitxan/ Tsimshian photographer with familial roots amongst the Tahltan and Nisga'a First Nations. Her background in traditional Indigenous art has laid the foundation for her contemporary work.
Having inherited the instinct for storytelling, she has focused this skill through the shutter of her camera. Jessica's photographic style can be best described as reportage and documentary combined with a fine art aesthetic.
Her photographic composites transform individual images into a visual lyric that expresses a modern Indigenous narrative by focusing on the intimate details of the visual story.
Rooted in the discipline of coastal design and reverberating with the echoes of tradition, Jessica's Fine Art Projects often expose overlooked dimensions of contemporary indigenous life.
Jessica is a member of the Canadian Freelance Union and the Tea & Bannock Indigenous Women's Photography Collective.
